The Memorial tennis team celebrates it second state championship Thursday after beating Plano West in the Class 6A final.

Memorial won its second state championship in team tennis on Thursday.

The Mustangs defeated Plano West, 10-7 in the Class 6A championship match in College Station.

Memorial waded through Wednesday’s weather delay like all other participants. Matches were cancelled with storms in the area, meaning Memorial also played its state semifinal against Southlake Carroll on Thursday morning.

Memorial won its first state title in team tennis in 2017 and that was a long sought-after accomplishment for a program that had been to the state championship stage many times.

Memorial had nine state tournament appearances to its name in team tennis with five state final berths before that 2017 title.

Coupled with individual success during the spring season, the program’s rise under head coach Bud Booth continues.
