Rugby dates back to England in the early 1800's at the Rugby School. Legend states that William Webb Ellis showed a fine disregard to the rules of football, picked up the ball and ran with it, and the sport of Rugby was born. Today the Rugby World Cup is the 2nd most attended sporting event in the world behind the FIFA Soccer World Cup.
We feel that Rugby is a microcosm of life. The sport deals with adversity, Players learn to make split second decisions under pressure while being pushed to their physical limits. Rugby is fun, but to be a great Rugby player, it takes a lot of hard work. Physical fitness, mental acuity and creativity are the traits that we look for in a player.
The coaches want to develop the players into solid young men. We stress sportmanship, scholarship and teamwork. We expect most players coming into the program to have little to no experience playing Rugby. All we ask for is a great attitute and a willingness to learn a great game.
Our Program is completely volunteer. None of our coaches are teachers and all of their time is given on a complete volunteer basis. It certainly takes a village to make the program a successful one. If you have the ability to be a Team Mom or Dad we can certainly use the help. Writing the newsletter, providing water, financial assistance, and sponsorship opportunities are all needed and welcome. Please lend a hand!
One of the best traditions of Rugby is to provide the visiting team a meal at the conclusion of the game. Players have a chance to meet the opposing team to develop friendships, strengthen bonds, but most importantly leave bad feelings on the field. One opposing team may hate another on the field, but off the field, everyone becomes friends. This sense of camaraderie is the true essence of Rugby. We require all Team Parents to volunteer to help with one Team Meal.
